The fight for television viewership will reach fever pitch this weekend as Star Plus flags off its Shah Rukh Khan-hosted Kya aap paanchvi paas se tez hain show, clashing directly with the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sony Max, which delivered record ratings in its opening weekend.

Star TV, under pressure with falling TRPs of its K-soaps, is betting big on Paanchvi Pass as its biggest show of the year. For Sony Max too, IPL is the biggest revenue generator this year. With IPL ratings expected to peak during weekends and Paanchvi Paas being a weekend property, the broadcasters are pulling out all stops to ensure that they don’t lose viewers to each other.

While Star would try to woo families, IPL is targeting new viewers like women and families through the T20 format. SET, on its part, is confident that it won’t lose out to Star. According to SET President Rohit Gupta  “While only time will tell whether audiences go away from IPL to other shows, the proof that IPL has caught on is in the numbers. Also, it’s not the first time that Shah Rukh Khan will be hosting a TV show.”
